Day shift
A resident reported that sometime between 2 pm Jan. 30 and 7:30 am Jan. 31, someone entered her unsecured 1998 maroon Chrysler while it was parked in the 3500 block of Greasewood and removed an eight-gigabyte iPod Touch and an organizer containing miscellaneous items.
A resident reported that sometime between 8 pm Jan. 30 and 7 am Jan. 31, someone entered his unsecured 2004 Chevrolet while it was parked in the 200 block of Cottonwood Drive and removed a Sirius satellite radio with docking kit and a TomTom navigation system.
At approximately 10:35 am officers and fire units responded to the 500 block of Dewey for a report of a gas meter that had been struck. Investigation revealed that a vehicle backing up in the alley drove over the gas meter.
A resident of the 3500 block of Rosewood reported that sometime between 1 am and 8 am Jan. 31, someone entered his unsecured red Ford F-150 and removed a Kevlar helmet, flak jacket and other miscellaneous military equipment. There are no suspects at this time.
A resident of the 3700 block of Driftwood reported that sometime between 5 pm Jan. 30 and 1 pm Jan. 31, someone entered his unsecured Chevrolet 2500 truck and removed a folding knife, a GPS bracket and 50 rounds of 9 mm ammunition. There are no suspects at this time.

Lawrence public invited to attend budget hearing

LAWRENCE Facing a budget gap far greater than last year, the Township Council will begin the Fiscal 2011 budget process by reviewing the townships current financial status at 7 pm Tuesday in Town Hall.
Mayor Greg Puliti urges residents to attend and hear Municipal Manager Richard Krawczun give a fiscal year-end budget report and revenue results for 2010.
Krawczun will also give an update on the anticipated impact of the new state-mandated 2 percent budget cap.
This will be an important update on the townships current fiscal status as we await the transmission of the managers 2011 proposed budget, and I encourage the public to attend this meeting to better understand the budget process as we move forward Puliti said in a prepared statement.
Krawczun will discuss the health of the townships surplus account, the effect current commercial property tax appeals will have on his proposed 2011 budget, and a current report on the collection of miscellaneous revenue items for 2010. Miscellaneous revenues are items other than dedicated revenues, revenues from taxes that support the budget, receipts from delinquent taxes, and surplus.

The Company is pleased to announce updated information relating to the offer for subscription for the 2010/11 and 2011/12 tax years, details of which were set out in the Prospectus dated 16 November 2010 (the Offer). The Offer opened on 16 November 2010 and is due to close no later than 5 April 2011 in the case of the 2010/11 tax year and no later than 28 April 2011 in the case of the 2011/12 tax year, unless previously extended.
The maximum amount to be raised under the Offer (before issue costs) is £15,000,000. As at the close of business on 31 January 2011, the Company had accepted applications for Offer Shares totalling over £12,900,000. As stated in the Prospectus, applications will be dealt with on a first come-first served basis, subject to the absolute discretion of the Board.
As previously announced, a total of 5,619,178 Offer Shares was allotted at an issue price of 86p on 23 December 2010 and 12 January 2011. It is expected that the next allotment of Offer Shares will take place on 4 February 2011. Following the announcement on 28 January 2011 that the unaudited net asset value per ordinary share as at 31 December 2010 was 82.2p, the issue price for Offer Shares allotted on or after 31 January 2011 will until further notice, in accordance with the Pricing Formula set out in the Prospectus, be 87p.

While sequels, remakes, comic book adaptations and animated movies will inevitably dominate 2011s box office, there will still be a few hits that dont fall in to any of these categories. In 2009, there was Avatar, The Hangover and The Blind Side, and in 2010 there was Inception. Heres a look at ten of the contenders, including three high-profile book adaptations, a few alien invasion movies, a potential Twilight successor or two and some wholly original wild cards.
I Am Number Four (Feb. 18): Based off a recently published young adult novel and featuring an alien in a high school-set romance (like a movie version of televisions Roswell), I Am Number Four fits in to a handful of the above-mentioned categories. While the book is too new to have built much of a fan base, and the Twilight association is tangential at best, alien-related movies tend to draw large crowds. If Disneys marketing clearly illuminates a high-stakes sci-fi story, this could turn in to a serious event movie in an otherwise quiet February.
Battle: Los Angeles (March 11): For a completely different alien invasion story, theres Battle: Los Angeles in March. The attention-grabbing trailers portray the movie as Independence Day meets Black Hawk Down, which should make it a huge draw for men of almost any age. If Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynihans characters are properly incorporated in to the marketing, there may even be some interest from women as well.
Red Riding Hood (March 11): With a plot that appears to involve a forbidden romance, one or more werewolves and a whole lot of trees, its hardly surprising that the trailer for Red Riding Hood emphasizes that its from the director of Twilight. Another apt comparison is last Marchs Alice in Wonderland, which also featured an appealing female lead in a retelling of a classic story. Amanda Seyfried had some success in 2010 with Dear John and Letters to Juliet but still isnt a guaranteed draw, though neither was Alices Mia Wasikowska. Theres a lot working in this Red Riding Hoods favor, and it should be very well-positioned as long as distributor Warner Bros. opts to flex its full marketing muscle.
Sucker Punch (March 25): Zach Snyders most top-grossing works to date have been visually-impressive comic book adaptations 300 and Watchmen. Snyder is back at it again, this time with an original idea in Sucker Punch. While it does look completely incoherent, its stylish, sexy, action-packed trailer has fanboys salivating at the mouth. If its girl power message is translated properly, this might be another hit for Snyder and Warner Bros.
Water for Elephants (April 22): Its easy to dismiss Robert Pattinson as just part of the Twilight craze thanks to the poor box office performance of Remember Me last March. However, his next movie Water for Elephants is poised to be much more successful: its helmed by blockbuster director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend), has interesting co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz and is based on a reportedly popular book.
Super 8 (June 10): While little is known about JJ Abrams Super 8 at this point, its teaser trailer indicates that Area 51 plays a role, and therefore its fair to extrapolate that aliens will likely be involved somehow. The mystery surrounding the project calls to mind the marketing behind Cloverfield, which opened strongly in January 2008 before closing with a solid-but-unspectacular $80 million. Expect Super 8 to do better, though how high it goes will depend on whether Abrams is able to create something as crowd-pleasing as the 1970s Spielberg movies he reportedly used as inspiration.
Moneyball (Sept. 23): As baseball movies generally dont knock em out of the box office park, the aptly-titled Moneyball may seem like an odd selection here. However, its a true story directed by an acclaimed director (Capotes Bennett Miller) scheduled for release at the beginning of Fall, which calls to mind The Social Network from 2010. Add in Brad Pitt to the mix, and it seems like this projects under-the-radar status will be short-lived.
Real Steel (Oct. 7): Disney is clearly high on Real Steel?a full-length teaser trailer was released nearly a year ahead of the movies scheduled opening. And why shouldnt they be enthusiastic? Its Rockem Sockem style robot action directed by perennial hitmaker Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen). As long as audiences arent turned off by the similarities to Transformers, Real Steel seems to be in good shape this Fall.
Hugo Cabret (Dec. 9): Known primarily for directing brutally violent movies like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York and The Departed, director Martin Scorsese tries his hand at a family adventure with childrens book adaptation Hugo Cabret. While none of its cast has much box office draw (the actor playing the title role is an unknown), and the books popularity is unclear, the movie is currently positioned very well, as its set to open before the unusually packed pre-Christmas rush begins.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Dec. 21): The late Steig Larrsons Millennium book series has sold 50 million copies worldwide and the Swedish language movie adaptations have collectively earned over $200 million worldwide. An English language version was inevitable, and Sony Pictures has fast-tracked this movie for a Christmas 2011 opening. While the apparent decision to have stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara speak with a Swedish accent may seem questionable, director David Fincher has proven time and time again that he can masterfully handle adult-leaning thrillers (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac). His vision combined with the books overwhelming popularity makes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a nearly surefire hit.
War Horse (Dec. 28): Excluding Munich (which was more of an espionage thriller), War Horse is director Steven Spielbergs first war movie since Saving Private Ryan made $216.5 million (over $360 million adjusted for ticket price inflation) in 1998. It also is set to open just five days after Spielbergs The Adventures of Tintin, which leads one to believe a date change may be in order. Regardless, the pedigree alone signals that this is definitely a project to keep an eye on.

Antique guns, coins stolen in Paradise township
Antique guns and coins were among $2,000 worth of items stolen from vehicles in Paradise Township on Sunday evening.
Three unlocked vehicles were targeted in the 3500 block of Lincoln Highway between 5:30 and 8:30 pm, state police said.
A PlayStation game, miscellaneous change and antiques, including three revolvers, coins and a pocket watch, were taken, police said.
Police ask anyone with information to call them at 299-7650.

Local Tax on Miscellaneous Items to Rise
It looks like the local tax rate on miscellaneous property items such as golf club memberships, factories and automobiles will gradually rise starting next year.
Yonhap News reported today that the Ministry of Public Administration and Security has decided to adjust the standard price index for local tax rates in the miscellaneous category to better reflect their market prices.
For real estate properties, the declared value stands at around 70 or 80 percent of the current market price but for the items in the miscellaneous group the index is below 30 percent with the exception of only automobiles.
The ministry said the new system will take effect starting 2012.
